The Kincardine Canadian Tire Atom girls rep. team won the Durham tournament Sunday, with sweet victory for all! The first game, against Arran-Elderslie, began slowly for the girls as they went down 1-0 just a minute into the opening period, but then responded with five goals of their own to go up 5-1 by the end of the second. Alyssa Andrews scored a hat-trick, with singles scored by Libby Fletcher and Laura Fohkens. Assists went to Claire Hunsburger and Katie Voskamp, and Slayde Millar. Arran-Elderslie scored its second of the game but that would be it and Kincardine went on to win with a final score of 5-2. The second game was a back-and-forth battle with Saugeen Shores. Kincardine scored in the first period, on a shot by Alyssa Andrews, assisted by Georgia Tanner and Slayde Millar to make it 1-0. There was no scoring in the second period, but the action was tough in both ends of the ice. The third period saw Kincardine score just two minutes in, on a goal from Laura Fohkens, assisted by Libby Fletcher. Kincardine won the game 2-0, which put the girls into the championship game. That match, against the Saugeen Shores Storm, saw Kincardine's Alyssa Andrews score half-way through the first period, unassisted, and that was it for goals, giving the girls sweet victory and the tournament win. Great defence by Jessica Gouthro, Kaeleigh Heydon, and attacking forwards Emma Twolan, Chloe Page, and Abbey McCormick. Stellar goaltending by Rose Pande with two shut-outs. Way to go, girls!
