Saugeen Track & Field athletes continue to excel

The past weekend saw many major accomplishments for area Track and Field athletes.

NEW ONTARIO INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD RECORD

Alex Morrow (Southampton) of the Saugeen Track and Field Club established a New Ontario Record for Youth Girls in the Pentathlon this past weekend. Alex was competing at the Ontario Combined Events Championships at York University.
Alex's record score of 3292 points exceeded the old record by over 150 points. Alex’s individual results in the Pentathlon competition were 60 Metre Hurdles 9.35 seconds , High Jump 1.48 metres , Long Jump 5.52 metres , Shot Put 9.14 metres and the 800 metre run was completed in 2:31.37 seconds.

FROM THE ONTARIO UNIVERSITY SCENE

Mat West (Mildmay) a member of the Saugeen Track and Field Club and freshman at the University of Windsor Ontario won the Pentathlon at Findlay University’s  Track and Field Classic in Ohio with a score of 3525.

This score ranks Mat second in Ontario Universities and fifth in Canadian Universities.

Caitlyn MacMillan (Port Elgin) as a member of the University of Western Ontario Track and Field Team competed at the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal. Caitlyn ran a personal best time in the 60 metre hurdles  6.39 seconds to place 6th, she followed this run with a huge Personal Best Performance in the 300 , stopping the clock at 41.73 seconds for an 11th. place finish .

Rita Rudell (Oliphant) competing for UNLV had a good start to the 2012 season after a lengthy time away from the sport.

Rita was competing in the Pentathlon at the Mountain's T's Invite in Flagstaff Arizona. Rita finished 9th in a strong NCAA field.

ON THE LOCAL SCENE

Two members of the Saugeen Track and Field Club capture medals at the Ontario Legion Track and Field Championships at York University on Saturday January 28th.

Ellen Diemert of Owen Sound place 2nd in the Youth Girls 800 with a time of 2:20.0 , Alex Morrow of Southampton finished 3rd in the Youth Girls 60metre hurdles in a personal best time of 9.19 seconds.

Upcoming Event .....

LOCAL ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR ONTARIO TRACK AND FIELD TEAM

Two members of the Saugeen Track and Field Team have been named to the Ontario Youth Track and Field Team .

The Ontario Team will travel to Montreal for a dual meet with Quebec at McGill University on February 4th.

Alex Morrow of Southampton will be competing in the 60 metre hurdles and the long jump , Ellen Diemert of Owen Sound will compete in the 800.

Each Province is allowed to enter two athletes per event. Each event is scored with the top team being declared the 2012 Champion.
