Huge crowds gathered on Groundhog Day in Wiarton on the Bruce Peninsula to wait for the prognostication of Wiarton Willie.

There were politicians from every level of government, television and radio personalities, entertainers and media from across the province ... all waiting anxiously for Wiarton Willie's prediction.

According to folklore, if Willie saw his shadow it would mean six more weeks of winter.  Fortunately, however, the skies were heavily overcast resulting in a prediction of an early spring that brought loud cheers from the hundreds who were there.
