For the second time in a week, Black and Red played thrilling games that went down to the wire in Novice House League hockey action at the Davidson Centre. And, for the second time in a week, the Black squad managed to hold on for the victory with the Red goalie pulled in favour of an extra attacker. Cameron Renaud scored with 1:34 left to play Saturday, giving his team a 2-1 win in a game that featured great defensive play and numerous scoring chances thwarted by excellent goaltending. Holden Stevenson got the assist on the game-winner, while Renaud scored Black's other goal, assisted by Tomas Nancekivell. Red scored the first goal of the game, with Andrew McKay chipping the puck up to Kayne Lee, who skated and beat Black goalie Gordie Reaume midway through the first period. Reaume was perfect from that point on, though, stoning Owen Thorn and turning away all of Red's advances. Not to be outdone, Brock Courtney turned away many shots for Red, including a nice kick save on Renaud. A 2-1 game in Novice House League is not the norm and it was great defensive play by both sides that kept this one close. For Red, Lauren Lee, Noah McArthur and Liam Hunter were defensive standouts. McArthur held the line for Red's defence, keeping the play in the offensive zone; Lee broke up plays in the defensive zone; and Hunter showed excellent back-checking effort.
