The South Bruce Grey Health Centre is looking at the possibility of the Walkerton site becoming a telestroke centre. Having a CT scanner on site is a requirement for acquiring this designation, and the medical staff are currently investigating the benefits and feasibility of pursuing this opportunity. This was one of the highlights from the health centre board meeting Jan. 25. Also, through funding received by Hope Grey Bruce, a nurse practitioner will be available at the Walkerton site to provide mental health services. The added service will be of benefit to residents of southern Grey and Bruce, and will provide face‐to‐face access through the use of telemedicine (videoconferencing). The health centre and the Brockton and Area Health Team will partner to provide space and ongoing supplies. The target date for start‐up is April 1.
