Arran-Elderslie has asked local councils to support a moratorium on wind turbine developments.

The issue was raised at the Monday night (Feb. 13) meeting of Saugeen Shores Town Council.  While Council agreed to support the moratorium, it drew short of making a commitment for a suggested walk-out at the upcoming Good Roads Municipal conference coming up in two weeks.

Arran-Elderslie put forward the suggestion that local councilors and/or mayors walk out on Premier Dalton McGuinty during his speech at the conference in order to make their point when it comes to wind turbines and their overall concerns with the Green Energy Act.

"If moratoriums did any good," said Vice Deputy Mayor, Doug Gowanlock, "we would be winning but I think we have to at least voice our concerns to the people of Ontario."

Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith said that he could not support the proposed action but he left it up to councilors to make their own decision.
