March 21, at 7:00 p.m. in the community room of Port Elgin Branch Library, the next Library Live! program explores the world of antiques with guest speaker Fred Schildroth.

Do you love yard-saleing, but wonder if that battered desk is really an antique? Do you glory in an auction ‘find’ only to discover the ‘treasure’ is actually closer to trash? Maybe you’ve received a family heirloom and are unsure how to care for it. A long-time local enthusiast and more recently a seller of antique furnishings and other collectibles, Schildroth will explain how to recognize the truly valuable. He’ll bring some examples for the audience to practise their identification skills. Bring your questions about the best way to cherish your treasures.

The evening includes a display of materials from the Library’s collection, from price guides to CDs, aimed at informing and entertaining on the topic of antiques and collectibles. Friends of the Library will serve refreshments, offer memberships, and sell memorabilia from this Carnegie library, an antique in itself.

The Library Live! series of programs for adults runs with admission by donation. From the proceeds of this and other fundraisers, the Friends support library programs and enhancements. The non-profit group recently funded the refurbishment of the original table and chairs, once used for municipal council meetings.
