Kincardine has endorsed a motion by Saugeen Shores and local branches of the  Royal Canadian Legion to change the name of a section of Highway 21.

The motion was included in Kincardine council's consent agenda Feb. 15, asking for support to designate the portion of Highway 21, from just south of Kincardine through to Georgian Bluffs, as Bluewater Veterans Highway.

The section from Goderich to Kincardine already carries that moniker.

Council also approved a $300 contribution for the purchase and installation of Bluewater Veterans Highway signs, with funding from the public works department budget.

A total of four signs is required between Springmount (easterly boundary) and southwesterly to just south of Kincardine. The Ministry of Transportation Ontario will provide and install the signs, and will maintain them.

The highway dedication in memory of, and in support of war veterans, passes through Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Saugeen First Nation, Arran-Elderslie, South Bruce Peninsula and Georgian Bluffs.
