Distracted Driving has moved to the forefront of police attention, both locally and provincially, as one of the leading causes of motor vehicle collisions.Although cell phones and other handheld communication and entertainment devices have been identified as major contributors to distracted driving vehicle crashes, the fact is “distracted driving” also has to do with attitude.
Just because many of us spend hours a week behind the wheel of an automobile, we fail to consider that driving is a huge responsibility.
How many other tasks do we do each day where a few seconds of inattention or a wrong decision could result in the loss of our own life or the lives of others? Not many. Yet, we jump behind the wheel and put the car in drive and go without a thought.
Unfortunately, this “attitude” is racking up the body count on Ontario highways.
