Secondary school students teach junior kindergarten about plants

Music plays an important role

Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) students recently had the chance to take on the role of teacher as they took Hepworth Junior Kindergarten students under their wings to learn about plants and insects.

The program is part of a learning experience that SDSS horticulture students are taking to young elementary school students throughout the area.  Teacher, Keith Day, encourages community involvement of the high school students through various programs that also include preparing planters for the municipality, holding weekly plant sales and teaching elementary students.

For most of the students, the most exciting part of the day was the release of 9,000 ladybugs that are used as a natural insect control in the greenhouse.
