The Purina Walk for Dog Guides will take place on Sunday, May 27, in Tiverton, sponsored by the Tiverton and District Lions Club.
The Huron Shores Lions club is also having a walk in Point Clark .
Join thousands of people across the country and help provide dog guides to Canadians with disabilities.
The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is a national charitable foundation that was created by the Lions of Canada.
Lions Foundation of Canada trains five different types of dog guides: Canine Vision Dog Guides for people who are blind or visually-impaired, Hearing Ear Dog Guides for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, Special Skills Dog Guides for people with a medical or physical disability, Seizure Response Dog Guides for people who have epilepsy, and Autism Assistance Dog Guides for children with autism.
Since 1983, the Lions Foundation of Canada has provided specially-trained dogs at no cost to people of all ages from coast to coast . Each dog guide costs about $20,000 to raise, train and place.
With the financial support from the community and the generosity of the sponsor, Nestle Purina Pet Care, the Lions Foundation of Canada is able to dedicate 100 per cent of the funds raised at the walk to providing dog guides at no cost to Canadians with disabilities.
To some, these dogs are their eyes. To others, their means to live independently.
The Tiverton Lions and Huron Shores Lions hope you will support the dog guide program by participating in the Purina Walk for Dog Guides or by making a donation toward the 2012 Walk
