In committee-of-the-whole last night (May 9), event manager Janice Griffith outlined the requests. The first was for the municipality to approve a motion formally recognizing the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games as a community festival, that it will take place in Victoria Park where there will be a licensed pub within an enclosed area, and that the Heavy Events will take place at Station Beach. The second request was that the municipality approve the extension of hours for the festival's licensed pub tent, by one hour on Saturday night only, which takes it into the wee small hours (2 a.m.) of Sunday morning. "The extension to 2 a.m. means our patrons will go home afterward and not into other local establishments," said Griffith. "Our live bands will shut down at 1 a.m. so we don't disturb the local residents. We're looking forward to a great event." The committee approved both requests, and at the end of the meeting, council ratified that decision.
