The SRA Board of Directors met over the long weekend to discuss Councils
decision to proceed with a process that could bring all of Canada’s
highly radioactive spent nuclear fuel to Saugeeen Shores. They refused
any consideration to defer this decision to allow seasonal residents an
opportunity to be heard over the summer, or to use the time to look at
some alternatives in advance of a September 30th deadline.
We are very concerned about the NWMO process but equally concerned over the lack of leadership and respect for constituents shown by this Council. The SRA Board is developing a strategic plan to deal with these issues, we will be releasing details to the community shortly. Once again we remind everyone that we are not anti-nuclear, we support Bruce Power and recognize the importance of their continuing operations in the long term. In the meantime it is important for everyone to discuss this issue with their family, friends and neighbours, to make them aware that this Council chose to ignore over 900 pages of letters, or email communications from their constituents and has taken the next step in a process that could change the vision of Saugeen Shores forever. Council has stopped listening to constituents who don’t want Saugeen Shores to be known as “ Canada’s National Nuclear Dump Site.” Stay posted to hear how you can help, as part of the community team that works to ensure that the vision of Saugeen Shores remains; pristine beaches, world famous sunsets, as a tourism destination, a place for retirees from across Ontario, and of course a community where Bruce Power employees live and raise their families.
