The 33rd annual Port Elgin Antiques Show & Sale attracted many
vendors and visitors
The 33rd annual Port Elgin Antique Show and Sale was held at 'The
Plex' on Friday and Saturday (July 17 & 18).
Sponsored by St. John's Anglican Church, the show has become a
tradition in Saugeen Shores with vendors coming from all over
southwest Ontario. For some, it was the first time at the show while
others had been attending for many years.
Rob Cornish of Exeter, Ontario said that he had been coming to the
show for several years. "This year was far better than last year,"
said Cornish.
Linda Buckley of Antiques by Linda of Palmerston, who has attended
in the past, also said that she was pleased with the response. "We
were actually fortunate that the weather has been cool so people
were really looking at alternatives to the beach. It's also one of
the best run shows anywhere," says Buckley. I've already signed up
and paid for next year." Buckley also explained that the recession
has not really impacted the antique market. "We are seeing
middle-aged and older people who understand the value of antiques
and they are investing in them."
Newcomers to the show were Land & Ross Antiques from Shakespeare,
Ontario. "This is our first time here," said Peter and Gayle Land
(partner Wayne Ross did not attend). "We've sold some things and
overall the show has been good. Would we come again? Most likely."
A final gate count was not available at show closing but it is
expected that the show drew at least as many people as last year. (next column)
