SOS holds protest walk in Southampton

Demonstrators begin to gather for a peaceful demonstration in opposition to the proposed DGR

Protestors gather at the base of High Street in Southampton on Lake Huron

The group 'Save our Saugeen Shores' (SOS) organized a peaceful walk on Saturday, June 30, in Southampton, Saugeen Shores.

The walk was to protest a proposed deep geologic repository (DGR) and Saugeen Shores Town Council's decision to proceed to Step 2 in the information process by Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO).

 

Speaking out against the DGR

Approximately 300 people turned out to take part in the walk and carry signs that said 'No Nuke Dump'. 

 

Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) Chief, Randall Kahgee

In addition, many residents of Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) and its band council, including Chief Randall Kahgee, also participated in the walk.
