It was interesting reading the letter of a former director of SRA expressing his point of view and why he is not a member any longer. It gives a little inside look at what has happened. Now, residents what does that tell you about this combative organization? Then I checked the SRA web site and read the following:
Membership in the Southampton Residents' Association (SRA) is open to all property owners and to those who may not be residents, but simply love Southampton and have its best interests at heart. Really, to me, that is absurd. People who do not live here telling us how to run our town? By the dictionary, resident is a person residing in a particular place. How can it be called the SRA when members might or might not be residents? This makes no sense at all.
Reading on, it says any member may be expelled by a two thirds vote of the directors. The show is run by a few power brokers. In other words do it my way.
Now to the dictatorship running and speaking for the SRA. You talk about being attacked, are you joking? You are the very people attacking council time and again. You continue to misinform people by calling it a dump not a repository. You sure do not like criticism but like to hand it out.
Whenever you start grabbing numbers from the sky to further inflate your cause, it's insulting and offends peoples' intelligence. So, you say there are 700 members, that may well be true. But they all sure do not support you or your views.
Let's get some actual facts instead of fictitious numbers. How many are residents? How many have left the SRA since the radical views were introduced? How many pay the membership and have nothing to do with your stance? How many just want cottage patrol service? How many join for the insurance reduction only? Be very careful with numbers because I know personally of people who have left and others who want nothing to do with SRA action over the DGR. Do not for one minute assume all your membership agree with or support your radical views.
I say it is you the SRA and SOS who are disruptive, misleading people, fear mongering with a distinct lack of facts.
Fact is, I was born and raised here. I did not just arrive in town. I have had in the past and will in the future a great deal more concern for the well being of Southampton than you ever will. I stand with the greater majority of actual residents. The SRA will never represent me and, I dare say, you do not represent Southampton either, just your personal misguided views.
