Bruce Power/Saugeen Shores/Municipality of Kincardine joint physician
recruitment committee has struck an agreement to bring a new full-time
Emergency Room (ER) doctor to the Southampton hospital. Dr. Michael Zwardon will begin his duties on Nov. 1 as part of a five-year commitment to the Southampton hospital. His duties will completely focus on the emergency room, helping to alleviate a once great area of need at the hospital. The money used to bring Dr. Zwardon to Saugeen Shores is covered by a recent Bruce Power physician recruitment donation to the municipality. Peggy Zeppieri, the Physican Recruitment Officer hired by Bruce Power and the committee to reduce orphan patients in Saugeen Shores and Kincardine by providing a full complement of doctors at local hospitals, said Dr. Zwardon’s hiring is an important step for the local hospital. “It wasn’t that long ago the Southampton emergency room was contemplating closures due to the lack of physicians,” Zeppieri said. “With Dr. Zwardon committing to five years of full-time, emergency room duty, the ER is now one of the strengths of the Southampton hospital. We are excited for Dr. Zwardon and his family to join us, and look forward to years of great service for the people of Saugeen Shores.” Dr. Zwardon completed his undergrad at the University of British Columbia and medical school in Poland. He completed his residency with the University of Western Ontario at the Hanover Residency site. Dr. Zwardon and his wife Camille, who will relocate to the area in September, chose Southampton for the lifestyle it offers, as both are athletic and enjoy cycling, running, tennis and sailing. They are also expecting their first baby in the coming months, and are excited to raise a family in such a beautiful shoreline community. |
