Michelle Burgess loved the out-of-doors and, in recognition of her love of nature, family, friends and co-workers have dedicated special spaces in her memory on the Saugeen Rail Trail.
In Southampton, on Sunday, August 12, friends and family gathered at the Memorial Park (Peel & Grosvenor Sts.) to remember Burgess and other families whose members have died. The Southampton Park area has become a reflective space and one of memories where trees are planted in memory of family or friends.
Jane MacDougall remembers her special teacher, Anne Schildroth, in whose memory she planted a tree Reverend Bob Johnston, Saugeen Rail Trail Padre delivered a reflection of the life of Michelle Bugess at the Southampton and Port Elgin outdoor park services.

From Southampton, family and friends moved to the recently completed Port Elgin Rail Trail Station. There, a special plaque that was briefly covered in Michelle Burgess' favourite rainbow of colours and donated by her co-workers at Bruce Telecom, was unveiled in her memory.
