Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson is making the most of her first summer as MPP for this riding, and has taken time to attend and participate in many local events and fund-raisers. Thompson is pleased to support many local fund-raising initiatives, including the Jeff Preston Charity Golf Tournament in support of multiple sclerosis; barrel-racing at the Brussels Homecoming in support of 4-H; the Relay for Life in Goderich; Canada Day celebrations in Walkerton; and she played softball with the CKNX Try-Hards to raise funds for the Teeswater Bantam Boys who are representing Ontario at the Eastern Canadian Bantam Championships in Nova Scotia. She also was thrilled to attend the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games, the 75th Anniversary of the Hensall Co-op, and the Bruce County Cattlemen’s barbecue in Chesley. “Giving back to the community has always been important to me, and even though my role as MPP keeps me busy, nothing beats coming home to Huron-Bruce, seeing the community spirit and being able to play an active role,” said Thompson. Even though the Ontario Legislature doesn’t sit in the summer, Thompson has still taken an active role to ensure the issues in Huron-Bruce aren’t forgotten. She hosted Progressive Conservative (PC) MPP Garfield Dunlop, critic for apprenticeship reform, in Wingham and Exeter to make businesses aware of the College of Trades and the Liberal government's new tax on skilled trades people. Thompson also brought in Monte McNaughton to host a roundtable in Clinton to discuss the Liberal government's decision to eliminate the Slots at Racetracks program, putting 60,000 rural Ontario jobs at risk. “Even though summer is here, we still have to keep our focus on what really matters—jobs, our economy and ensuring important, essential services like electricity are affordable for families,” she said.

One
of the highlights of Thompson’s busy summer thus far, was awarding
14 deserving constituents with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal
for outstanding community dedication. She was also able to present
the first Huron-Bruce Remarkable Citizen Award. She looks forward to the rest of the summer and participating in many more Huron-Bruce events. Scrolling stops when you move your mouse inside the scroll area. You can click on the ads for more
