A belt-tightening budget in the offing? |

It appears that there is little leeway when it comes to budgeting when the province continues to download services on to municipalities. For instance, Conservation Authorities are have a difficult time despite the Province's oratory on 'going green'. Little has been done to support authorities, and their budgets have been continually downloaded on to municipal budgets and, yet, almost everyone agrees that conservation efforts are paramount to the environment.

Town staff have considered many cost-cutting measures but it appears as
though there will be a tax increase for 2010. What that increase
is to be has yet to be determined. With limited dollars and several hands out for requests, it remains to be seen what the final budget to be presented to Council will bring.
