According to sources, all the 53 members of the local team who recently went to Haiti with the Mission of Hope organization are well, aside from a few scrapes and bruises, after the recent devastating earthquake. The team has been working around the clock to provide medical care to local residents on the Island. Those who are not qualified to provide medical care are busy helping with the reconstruction repairs to the Mission's guest house and orphanage. A spokesperson for the Sauble Christian Fellowship Church of Sauble Beach, Ontario said that in a recent email received from the group in Haiti, everyone was maintaining a positive attitude. A water truck had come into the camp/compound on Friday and drinking water was to be brought in on Saturday. Apparently, the group has enough food for the present time but is concerned about running out of medical supplies. There is no word as to when or how the group will be able to be evacuated from the island. Under the direction of Pastor David Oppertshauser it was decided that it was best for the group to remain at the Mission compound until definite plans were made for evacuation. He did not feel that it was in the best interest of the group to travel to the capital Port au Prince given that the situation was still so unsettled and travel out of the country was uncertain. In the meantime, the group continues to provide medical care to Haitian residents coming to the medical clinic and struggles to help rebuild damaged buildings. Also see: |
