President & CEO, Eric Dobson New President and CEO of Bruce Telecom, Eric Dobson has only been 'on the job' for two weeks and changes are underway. "I hope the employees see that things are going to be a little different," said Dobson. "We are a small company of 83 employees and I've been meeting with them one-on-one and also in groups to get their input. There have already been budget and policy changes." Contrary to the rumour mill that said five top managers had already left the company, Dobson clarified that one manager was retiring in April, a second had, in fact, quit and a third was moving from inside management to outside field work. "I expect there will be more personnel changes taking place in the near future." "I like to manage from a 'team' aspect. I like input and discussion with employees, particularly if there is going to be change. The employees need to feel involved and engaged." |
According to Dobson, the operating results will be considerably less than anticipated but, as yet, no firm number had been arrived, at. At the same time, the company is looking at upgrading and expanding its fibre-optic network. "We are also looking at working with other independent providers in the area, such as Hurontel, to help fund the expansion in order for all of us [independents] to be more competitive. We have to be able to provide a full suite that includes television, Internet and telephone and we'll be launching a new cellular/mobility product in March or April." Dobson, who comes with an extensive background in communications, including positions at both Rogers and Sprint, said that he knew exactly what the situation was at Bruce Telecom before taking on the position of President and CEO. "One of the reasons I'm here," he added, "is because I like a challenge. Even though I held a senior position with Rogers, it had lost its challenging aspect." When asked if Rogers would consider buying Bruce Telecom, Dobson said, no, but "... that doesn't rule out other possibilities." |
