A good crowd enjoyed its fill of the "steamin', reekin'" haggis at the Robbie Burns Dinner held Saturday night (Jan. 23) in the Kincardine Hall at the Davidson Centre.

The wearing of the plaid, the skirl of the pipes and everything Scottish were the order of the day, as local entertainer Norm Dunsmoor opened the festivities with several songs.

Steve Wolfe played the piper's welcome and then Scott Telford, president of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band, welcomed everyone to the event.

Dave Wilson Sr. piped in the haggis, carried by Jim Robinson, and Alex Clark gave a riveting address to the symbol of Scottish intestinal fortitude.

Following the meal, speeches were given by Hugh Wright, Peter Kirkpatrick with a toast to the lassies, and Stacey Millar with a reply from the lassies. Entertainment included the pipe band, highland dancers, The Pleats, and featured piper Glenn Walpole.

During the evening, Norm Annetts, representing the Municipality of Kincardine and organizer of the annual Massed Bands, presented a cheque for $1,750 to Brian Fry and Scott Telford of the pipe band, profit from the sale of food at the 2009 event. That money will go toward outfitting a young member of the pipe band.
