The Kincardine Rotary Club is
joining Rotary International’s disaster relief effort in Haiti.
Rotary International has organized a comprehensive disaster
relief program involving the delivery of two basic survival kits
to cover immediate needs.
Through the delivery of two relief boxes, the ShelterBox and AquaBox, the initial needs of the people of Haiti can be covered for a few months, until more sustainable programs can be established. The ShelterBox contains items like a tent, blankets and floor mats, water purification tablets and a multi-fuel cook stove, cooking and eating utensils and basic building tools. For a cost of $1,000.00 this box is designed to provide shelter for a family of ten for up to six months. The Aquabox is a rigid plastic
container of approximately 75 litres capacity and is packed with
30 Filter / Purification sets which will provide 33,000 litres
of potable water. Its cost is approximately $500.00. Our Kincardine Rotary Club has already funded three Shelterboxes and is now calling on the residents of Kincardine who are looking for a way to help the people of Haiti to join the relief effort. |
Donations in cash or by cheque (payable to
Kincardine Rotary Club) can be dropped off downtown at Gordon Pharmasave.
These donations qualify for a Government of Canada matching grant. We are
running this program till February 9th, 2010.
Every little bit helps, and all collected funds will be going to the aid of the people of Haiti through Rotary International. Since this program is delivered through Rotary International there are no administration fees, so nearly 100% of your donations will go towards these boxes. Keep the plight of the Haitian people in your hearts and minds and help us do what we can to provide the sheer basics of survival to them. We thank you all for your contributions and will keep you updated on the progress of our combined effort.
