KDSS raises $3,300 for Haiti

The Free the Children group at Kincardine District Secondary School has raised $3,309.55 through the "Hope for Haiti" coin drive. When matched by the Canadian government, that means $6,619.10 for Haiti.

Organizers challenged each classroom of students that if they raised $100 or more, they would receive a cake for the class. The group ended up baking 14 cakes and delivering them to the classes.

In other school news:
  • The first full semester has ended and students have begun their second semester. The school welcomes three new staff members this semester: Linda Glass in the tech. department, Cecilia Varga is teaching English, and Roselyn Hurst is teaching accounting.
  • The art history students will be heading for Europe to further their studies in Rome, Florence and Paris, March 10-23. They have been planning this trip for two years.
