![]() Alex Gurbin (L) and Kaylie Wolfe stand with the Olympic flame The Olympic games were front and centre at Elgin Market Public School, Kincardine, Friday, as the students were divided into 12 countries, participating in 13 games. Organized by Kaylie Wolfe and Alex Gurbin, the games included hockey, curling, freestyle skiing, bobsledding, speed-skating, figure skating, and biathlon, along with other sites such as spectator centre, guest services, and the construction crew. Kaylie is a graduate of Kincardine District Secondary School now studying at Brock University, while Alex continues her studies at KDSS. They have been organizing fun days at EMPS since they were in Grade 8. The special events are held in winter (usually January or February) and summer (May or June), and volunteers from KDSS help out. With the Olympic Games being staged in Vancouver over the past two weeks, it was an obvious theme, complete with opening ceremonies. Kincardine's mascot, Blinky, lit the flame, and the games were under way, running throughout the day, and ending with a closing ceremony.
