The Ripley Wolves have been ousted from the playoffs by the Elora Rocks. In Elora Friday night (Feb. 26), for Game 5, the Rocks defeated the Wolves, 7-5, in a close game. Jason Reid was in net for Ripley for the first two periods before he was injured, and then Kurt Edwards took over for period three. Elora opened the scoring midway in the first, but Nick Locking tied it up on the powerplay, assisted by Curtis Schmalz Early in the second frame, Shea Armstrong put Ripley ahead, 2-1, assisted by Kurtis Colling and Nathan Gavey. But Elora tied it up minutes later. Locking put the Wolves ahead again, 3-2, on a powerplay goal from Jeremy McQuillin and Colling, but Elora made it 3-3 on a powerplay goal. Then, with just a second remaining in the second period, McQuillin scored from Gavey and Kyle Gallant, again on the powerplay, to make it a 4-3 game heading into the final frame. Elora tied it midway in the third, and then Gavey scored from Brock Lowry and Darrin Gavey to put Ripley ahead once more, 5-4. However, Elora owned the rest of the game, firing in two more goals, plus an empty-netter, to take the 7-5 win. Things were even more difficult for the Wolves Saturday night (Feb. 27) on home ice at the Ripley Arena, as they were missing one of their major players, Kurtis Colling, who was off sick. Despite some tremendous end-to-end action and many scoring chances, Ripley could not get the puck past the Elora goalie. Meanwhile, Elora fired in six shots, plus an empty-net goal at the end to take the 7-0 win. Jason Reid was in net for Ripley.
