The six swimmers with the KDSS Aquatic Knights swim team, who are attending OFSAA next Tuesday and Wednesday, received their rankings in the event on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 24).

Senior swimmer Steve Young was ranked 19th in the 50m freestyle but, since he can swim in only two events, that is the one he scratched. He will be swimming in the 100m Individual Medley, in which he is ranked 4th, and the 100m backstroke, in which he is ranked 5th.

Senior swimmer Carly Schmidt is ranked 24th in the 50m freestyle and 19th in the 100m backstroke.

Para- swimmer and junior Ashlee Banyard is ranked 10th in the 50m freestyle and 6th in the 50m backstroke.

The senior boys’ freestyle relay team of Caden Allingham, John McCool, Alex Morariu and Young, was initially not included in the 32 teams that would compete at OFSAA, despite having a faster qualifying time than six other teams. Those teams were included, even though they did not have a qualifying time because they won their events at the regional level.

However, after scratches were made, the Knights’ relay team found itself in 27th place and OFSAA-bound.

The swim team will once again be dedicating its performance to the recovery of teammate Josh Easton.
