The Kincardine Theatre Guild (KTG) "cleaned up" with award nominations and wins through the Western Ontario Drama League, for its productions of "Annie, the Musical" and "Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun."

While neither show was chosen to go on to the festival in Owen Sound on March Break, the guild is very proud of the achievements this season, said president Shirley Bieman.

Rob Millar was named best actor for his role of Robert Castle in "Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun."

Alexandra Chapleau and Elaine Van Rooyen were recognized for their fine characterizations of Annie and Mrs. Hannigan in "Annie, the Musical," with each receiving a special adjudicator's award.

Mhairi Walsh won the best costumes award for "Annie, the Musical."

"Annie, the Musical" was named the best visual production, while "Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun" had the best set design.

Among the award nominees were:
  • Best juvenile - Alexandra Chapleau
  • Best newcomer - Alexandra Chapleau and Paul Dennis (Dr. Andrews in "Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun")
  • Best sound design, and best lighting design - "Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun"
  • Best visual production - "Kiss the Moon, Kiss the Sun" and "Annie, the Musical (which won the award) - they were the only two show nominated

"Bravo to everyone who worked on these shows," said Bieman. "To be recognized in almost every category of pre-festival awards with either a win or nomination is amazing."

She said the set, sound, lighting and costume awards are chosen from all groups, whether they were adjudicated as in- or out-of-festival. "We won two of these and were nominated for the other two - again wow!"
