Three Kincardine schools will be joining more than 8,000 students in 28 schools across Grey and Bruce counties in the third annual "Great Big Crunch," Thursday, March 11.

Everyone will crunch an apple together to make the biggest crunch. Students at Kincardine District Secondary School, Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School and St. Anthony's School will be part of this cross-Canada, record-setting event, promoting the healthy crunch of apples.

Last year, 28,863 students, teachers, staff and parents participated in 125 schools, with a nation-wide, synchronized apple crunch. The event also encourages classes to learn about healthy eating and local and global food systems, while following the journey from the apple seed to the harvest, to the market, and to the core.

Grey-Bruce Eat and Learn is sponsoring this event and will pay for many of the apples. Local growers and stores have donated or reduced the cost for the rest. The "Great Big Crunch" kicks off Nutrition Month and promotes healthy snacking.
