At its Feb. 16 meeting, Goderich council discussed correspondence received, including a public meeting, set for March 9, 4-8 p.m. at the Lucknow Community Centre, regarding the proposed Kingsbridge II Wind Power Project.

Capital Power is proposing 100 to 150 turbines located north of Blyth Road, south of Amberley Road, east of Highway 21, and west of Lucknow Line, in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh. It would supply 270 megawatts of electricity.

In a letter to Capital Power Corporation, Goderich airport manager Ken Bogie noted that he has concerns about the southwest corner of the area outlined on the map for the wind farm.

“The construction of wind turbines in the area from Blyth Road on the south, to Golf Course Road to the north, between Highway 21 and Loyal Line, would have a detrimental effect on the airport’s instrument approach,” wrote Bogie. “The Town of Goderich would be opposed to any wind turbine construction south of the existing turbines.”

In other business:

  • Planning and heritage approval was given to Dean and Susan Whelan for window and façade work on their property at 124 The Square. They’ll receive a façade improvement grant, a fee refund that is equivalent to a grant program, and are now exploring the option of getting money from a tax refund equivalent program to offset the estimated $53,000 cost.
  • Council also decided on names for rooms in the town hall. The room to the right, when coming in the new entrance, will be named The Dunlop Room and will be used for Hydro customer inquiries and concerns. The old mayor's office is named in honour of John Galt, and the old council chamber will be known as the Menesetung Room. An official opening of the new office facilities is scheduled for April 30.
