While most of Ontario, and likely all of Kincardine, is enjoying the 2010 Vancouver Olympics on television, four local young people had the opportunity to travel to Vancouver and take in the games first-hand. Gabrielle Finnie, 23, and her brothers, Spencer, 20, Brandon, 18, and Joseph, 15, children of Sam and Heather Finnie of Kincardine, joined their aunt in Vancouver to view the events up close. Brandon spent 12 days there, while the rest spent a week. They all returned home Tuesday night (Feb. 23). Sam Finnie said they were able to watch men's hockey, men's and women's curling, ice dancing, and the pairs skating practice. They saw three medal presentations, including two with Canadian athletes on the podium, and were featured on CTV, cheering on the Canadian curling team. "Brandon was even fortunate enough to see the first Canadian gold medal presentation," said Finnie. His children said there were a lot of things to do that were free. But they drew the line at standing in line for four hours to hold a gold medal. Instead, they enjoyed a 4-D movie at the Ontario pavilion. Gabrielle is working at the University of Waterloo, Spencer is at Mohawk College, Brandon is starting a co-operative education session with John Ball in Ripley, and Joseph is at Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton. |
