Kincardine council has given its stamp of approval for new washrooms and renovations to the agricultural hall at Connaught Park, located at the foot of Broadway in Ward 1, at a total cost of $300,000.

The project received two-thirds funding from the provincial and federal governments under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund program, meaning Kincardine is on the hook for $100,000.

Clerk Donna MacDougall presented the update in committee-of-the-whole Wednesday night (March 3).

For the agricultural hall, the plan is to turn the existing washrooms into the ladies' washroom, and turn the storage area into the men's washroom, allowing for more space and better accessibility under new provincial guidelines, said MacDougall. Portions of the kitchen will be reworked to replace the space being used for the washrooms.

Also, an automatic door opener will be installed at the main entrance.

For the freestanding washrooms, the project includes replacement of the existing building (washroom facilities, canteen and storage area).

Council approved the project which now proceeds to tender and then construction. It is expected the municipality's share of this project will come from the tax mitigation reserve fund.
