It was a good news, bad news tourism season for Bruce County this past summer.

Tourism manager Chris Hughes says it was a record-breaking year for attractions that are not weather dependent, such as the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, trails and amusement parks - all had tremendous attendance.

But beach-related tourism businesses had a 10- to 15-per-cent drop because of the wet, cool weather.

Hughes says visitors in the Western Greater Toronto Area, or active "baby-boomers," are a target group for the county. He says the county is looking for activities and attractions that will extend the tourism season, to include more than just the summer months.
