More than 170 runners start the Reindeer Romp

It was a variety of fashion but antlers appeared to be a pre-requisite

The Reindeer Romp and Jingle Jaunt was an event organized as part of the kick-off to the arrival of the Olympic Torch on December 28th.

Held early Sunday morning, the event saw approximately 200 people turn out at The Plex in Port Elgin to take part in the two-tiered run and walk.

The morning began at 8:30 a.m. with the Jingle Jaunt for young children and then the Reindeer Romp for adults at 9:00 a.m.

The nominal registration fee went to support the Saugeen Track and Field Club who helped organize the event.

Not exactly a fashion statement

There was also a donation desk set up for Vi Cottrill, a staunch supporter of sports in the community who has recently undergone surgery and requires convalescent care that she cannot afford.

"Vi has come out to almost every event we've ever had  and knows the all the kids and all their stats," says Geordie Farrell of the Saugeen Track and Field Club. "We raised $200 today that will go toward her care."
