Kincardine council received an early Christmas present at the final meeting of the year Wednesday night (Dec. 16).

Chief administrative officer John deRosenroll said notice came down from the provincial government that the drop in funding through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund would not be as drastic as the $621,000 predicted.

"We're losing only $400,000 of that grant," he said, "but that's just for this year. The province is slowly weaning municipalities off the annual allowance."

"So, there is a Santa Claus," quipped mayor Larry Kraemer.

He joined the rest of council in wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Council's first meeting of 2010 will be Jan. 13, at 5 p.m.
