Avertex Utility Solutions Inc. of Orangeville has been awarded the tender for the watermain project on Campbell Street in Lucknow, with a bid of $71,400.

Huron-Kinloss council approved the tender at its Dec. 21 meeting, noting Avertex was the lowest of six bids which included Moorefield Excavating at $85,616.27, Bill and Tom Kempton Construction at $86,971.50, A. Van Egmond Construction at $90,268.50, Elgin Construction at $105,969.79, and SMRS Construction at $126,438.37.

Township engineer B.M. Ross and Associates reported that it checked all the tenders and while it has not worked directly with Avertex on watermain projects in the past, references were contacted and they indicated the contractor is experienced and capable of completing the job.

Public works director Hugh Nichol said that depending on the weather, the watermain installation should be completed by Feb. 26, with final restoration in the spring. Bruce County Highways has approved the project on the condition it will not interfere with winter maintenance activities, he said.
