The Dark Angel Blues Band was belting out some great tunes for the crowd that jammed The Bruce Club 750 for the 12th annual Brownie's Boxing Day Blues Bash Saturday afternoon.

Long a tradition in this area, the event is a memorial to Larry Brown of Kincardine who loved the Blues. His friends gather every year to enjoy each other's company, share a story of two in memory of a great friend, and listen to some great Blues music.

The Dark Angel band has been playing this gig ever since its inception and lead singer Brian Stoliker says it's always a wonderful tribute to Brown. Stoliker is joined on stage by Mike Moszynski on guitar, Stewart Elliott on saxophone, Billy Lyons on bass, and John Moszynski on drums. They also welcome guest artists, including Kincardine's own Steve Deer, and members of Down Child.

The band has been playing in this area for about 30 years, says Stoliker. "We were full-time on the road for 18 years under the name 'Success Without College.' We were playing in Lindsay, and John and I sat down and agreed we would pursue this until it stopped being fun. Then one night, when we watched the owner of a bar break open the cigarette machine with a crowbar to pay us, we realized we weren't having fun."

The band members include a lawyer, KPMG communications consultant, sociologist, and a cabinet-maker.

The group now plays as "Dark Angel" for charity performances only. "This county has been good to us; so when we're needed, we appear," said Stoliker. To contact the band, call 519-368-7618.

Proceeds from this year's Brownie's Blues Bash will be going toward the Walker House in Kincardine.
