In 2005 hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans, leaving
thousands homeless. Many of these people remain homeless to this day.
The Port Elgin United Church has gathered a group of people consisting
of 6 adults and 4 youth who are headed to New Orleans for March Break to
assist Samaritan’s Purse rebuild homes for the displaced people of New
Orleans.
Gump and Cailyn McMeekin, Zak and Abby Bolton, Jean Palmer, Jake
Kononiuk, Michelle, Bob and James Hunter and Katt Willson will be going
to New Orleans to be “God’s Hands”. The 4 youth involved in this mission
have fund raised money to make a donation to the Mission through their
annual Spaghetti Dinner.
The Youth Group gathers every Friday night at the Port Elgin United
Church at 7:00pm for fun and fellowship as well as music and words of
“God”. They also host a yearly 30 hour famine with the proceeds going to
World Vision. They host an Annual Yard Sale and other fundraiser to help
off set cost for their annual trips to other churchs.
