The sewer expansion project in Southampton is one step closer.

Head of engineering Dave Burnside, presented the tenders to council at Monday night's meeting.  The project was divided into four parts and each contractor selected will use upwards of 11 crews creating several jobs.

"We were very fortunate," said Burnside, "that so many companies tendered giving us a real opportunity for savings, and most came in under budget.  It also means that with each contractor being responsible for one area, the work can be completed more quickly."

A central, perhaps on-site, project office will also be established where local residents can bring their concerns.

The tenders are now under review and the final decision will be made at the next council meeting so that anticipated construction can begin by mid-April in order to meet the one-year deadline set out by the Federal and Provincial governments.
