The proposed affordable housing project to be located in  Port Elgin is closer to reality as Council passed a By-law on Monday to authorize a Site Plan Agreement.

The project will consist of a 28 unit apartment and eight townhomes on Wellington Street, between Elgin and River Streets.  Bruce County Housing Corporation purchased the land in two separate lots.

The development will include a sidewalk on the east side of Wellington Street and the south side of River Street in addition to a cedar hedge along the east boundary of the property that will provide a natural buffer along the Rail Trail.

The Housing Corporation will also construct a limestone path link from Wellington Street to the rail trail.

In addition, it was recommended that the Parkland Dedication Fee of $5,000 be waived along with the $89,900 Development Charges.
