We just got back from the Canada vs U.S. hockey game where the atmosphere at the game was wonderful but the score was not.

The score of five to three in favour of the U.S. were not what we were hoping for. The arena was packed without an empty seat in sight. The place was a sea of red with Canadian Flags waving, horns blaring and thousands of people cheering.

There were more Canadians than Americans and some Swedes thrown in. The game was action packed with the action concentrated at the U.S. end and shots on goal were something like 46 on the USA goalie to 21 on the Canadian goalie. Unfortunately the score was the reverse ratio. Not withstanding the score, the fans never let up and cheered to the end.

It was extraordinary to see the passion and patriotism shown by the fans. O' Canada was sung by the fans before the game and could be heard outside after the games.  The Olympic spirit is truly amazing, if only it would last all year.

We (Salters) were on the screen twice at the beginning of the game and later in the third period, so, hopefully, some of our friends at home saw us.  Our seats were high up and we could see Wayne Gretzky directly across from us. He did not look happy and was missing for most of the third period. We saw lots of celebrities, including Donald Sutherland who was coming out where we did.  He has been the voice of the games and it was his voice in the Opening Ceremonies.

We went to dinner after walking down to see the Olympic Torch and the rings on the barge in the bay.  Lots of people on the streets.

While at dinner Jeffrey Buttle and Jamie Sale were in the same restaurant.  We could hear Jamie talking to some men about her Skating with the hockey players.  Someone asked where her husband was and she said "EX HUSBAND". So this is an exclusive.  We were shocked.

The night before Allison and friends were in a bar where Michael Buble and Ben Mulroney were.

Our next event is on Wednesday when we go to BC place for one of the Victory Ceremonies and then on Thursday we go to Cypress Mountain to watch the freestyle ski competition.

People at the games do miss a lot as we do not see all the other events that are going on the way you can on television.  Even at the skating we did not get the commentary.

The speed skating races have been the most exciting and especially the group races. They are so different than on TV as you get a complete view of the whole ice surface.

A long day.  Lets hope the next hockey game is better.  We certainly were cheering in the stands.

Go Canada Go!
