Newly formed High Skills Major (HSM) students listen to CPR and first aid instruction

The recent High Skills Major initiative at Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS)  had its students take part in an intensive two-day training session in Standard First Aid and CPR .

Students learned how to deal with accident victims, heart attacks and seizures, fainting, hypothermia, hypoglycemia, choking in infants and adults and emergency childbirth situations.

At the end of the two-day course, students were tested on what they had learned and, if they passed, received CPR Certification, which must be renewed every three years.

"This class has been exceptional," said Instructor, Cynthia Wilson.  "They are eager to learn and are really getting into the various situations of life-saving techniques."

According to Wilson, "While the students may not fully realize the value of what they are learning today,  these are skills that will last a lifetime and, who knows, may even save a life!"
