The Speed Skating has been one of our favourite venues. We have learned
from going to these venues that the Dutch Speed Skating is the Sport
like Hockey is to Canadians. It is their sport. They dress in the most
outrageous brilliant orange outfits and will fly all over the world to
Speed Skating events. They are incredible and come in large contingents.
They have excellent speed skaters and in the one race we watched the
girl who was expected to win from the Netherlands loose. When we left
the venue we saw her in the arms of her family sobbing and we could see
the agony and defeat. These athletes work so hard to get where they are
and we have seen this with our Canadians too.
The Dutch ride bicycles in their country where there are no roads nor
parking spots for cars. They have brought 400 bicycles here for people
to ride and we have seen many of the Dutch riding them. When Alison
Brazier was running with a colleague on a trail a rider said bike coming
through and when she passed she said and there are 80 more coming. They
just said "WHAT"! Yes and 80 bikes went by. To get a bike you must go to
Hollands Heineken House at the Richmond's O Zone at Minoru Park. This
Park has several tents and shows nightly. It is the place to be
especially Heineken House. Heineken House is the most sought after place
to be in any Olympics. The line ups are incredible and if your Dutch
with a Dutch passport you have a super chance of getting in. The line
ups we saw when we were there were closed off to any others because it
was so long. The Dutch have closed it nights for themselves when they
have won gold.
We have some pictures to share and you cannot miss the Dutch People
anywhere you go. Watch for them in the stands.
