Touchdown At the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre

Not a flying saucer but the GREY CUP

ONE DAY ONLY – Wednesday, March 17, 2010 – 10am – 5pm

(Southampton, ON) Not just any grey cup but THE GREY CUP! That’s right, straight from the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in Hamilton, the Grey Cup is coming to the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre for one day only. Football enthusiasts can spend the day learning the history behind this Canadian professional football trophy, which by the way was originally not intended for football at all! Learn all about its origin dating back to 1909 and the fact that the silver cup mounted on a wooden base cost only $48.00 to make. The Grey Cup celebration as we know it began in 1948 when the Calgary Stampeders went to Toronto to play the Ottawa Rough Riders dressed in their full Western get-up complete with ten-gallon hats, boots and spurs. The tradition has lived on.

Learn even more fascinating facts about this coveted award with large screen viewing of “A Century of Battle: The History of the Grey Cup 1909 -1995 .” Watch this 70-minute video in the 116 seat Bruce Power Theatre at the Museum which highlights great plays and hits, behind the scenes action and 1995 Grey Cup highlights and interviews. This collector’s video chronicles the history of the Grey Cup and will provide great viewing pleasure for sports fans everywhere.

But wait….that’s not all. You can also have your picture taken with THE CUP! The photos will be taken and printed on site. So bring the family or your sports team for this unique opportunity. Prices are as follows:

      Groups of 1 – 2 people - $5

      Groups of 3 – 5 people - $15

Family 50s Fun Fair

Remember a time when life was a little slower and folks had time to take advantage of the simpler things in life.  The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is offering area residents the chance to do just that with Family 50s Fun Fair on March 20, 2010.

Remember how good those hot dogs tasted as a kid and having a game of checkers with dad made for a great weekend. Join costumed staff and volunteers at the museum to relive it all over again. Have a game of crokinole or bingo, take part in a scavenger hunt and then test your skills with a hula hoop, we have various sizes for all ages. Take a free ride on a horse drawn wagon, sponsored by the Southport Optimist Club. Grab some popcorn and watch an award winning 1956 family movie on the big screen in the Bruce Power Theatre at 11:30am and 1:30pm. Round out your day with a tour thru the museum and investigate the Nifty 50s exhibit all the while listening to tunes from the past.
