Jim Moss A fundraiser was held for Jim Moss and his family on Saturday February 20th at the Lakeshore Recreation Centre in Port Elgin. The event, that featured a silent auction, was to help raise needed funds for Moss who was diagnosed with Guillaine-Barre Syndrome (GBS), while living in California. Son of Ron and Connie Moss, Jim Moss is a member of the Professional Lacrosse Players' Association (PLPA) and plays for the Colorado Mammoth and is Coach of the Sanford girls lacrosse team.
Dave Succamore (L) presents a donation on behalf of the PLPA Dave Succamore of the PLPA was at the Port Elgin fundraiser where he donated $5,000 on behalf of the PLPA. "It's overwhelming," said Moss. "The support has been amazing for me and my family, but that's how small communities are ... they help their own."

With treatment in California by leading specialists, Moss incurred some $750,000 in medical costs. Although he had insurance, he also has a large deductible of 10 per cent. "Canadians have no idea of the wonderful health care system that's here in Canada. I was fortunate to have insurance but what about those people in the States who don't. I would be bankrupt if I didn't have it." Moss has also had the support of many friends and athletes in California. "I made friends with some of the NHL San Jose Sharks and they are going to sign a jersey that is being auctioned off here tonight," said Moss. Moss, his wife Jenny and their two children, Wyatt (2 1/2) and 10 week old Olivia, are planning on moving back to Canada in the near future. Moss also works with young lacrosse players . "You have to give back," he says. "My motto is ... go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you have imagined."
