Isobel at  101

A feminist long before it was popular, Isobel Howke, one of 10 children , and as a young teacher, believed in equality for boys and girls.

It was only eight weeks ago however, that she came 'wheeling' down the hallway in her wheel chair at the Southampton Care Centre to listen to a concert in the common room.

She always had that famous twinkle in her eyes that her friends and family knew and, as they say, she was as  'sharp as a tack'.  Her hair was immaculate, her nails were polished and painted and she was always dressed, as they say, "to the nines".

As a teacher, whose many students today still remember her, she was a force to be reckoned with.

At 91, she decided to take up knitting again ... not just knitting, but knitting for a purpose ...  "teddy bears for doctors without borders".     Click here

Always one to enjoy life to the nth degree, at 103, Isobel took part in every event that she could, including things like bobbing for apples.   Click here

Isobel passed away peacefully in her sleep and was the longest living member of Southampton United Church.

She will be missed and a celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at Southampton United Church.
