On Wednesday March 10th, 2010 the Family Y Employment Resource Centre in Walkerton will be hosting an internet safety night titled “Your Child and the Internet; Do You Knows What They Are Doing?” This evening will be a collaboration of safety tips for social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MSN Messenger as well as education on online gambling through the YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program. Guest speakers will be Constable Kevin Martin, Community Services/ Media Relations Officer from the South Bruce OPP, Chelsea Hernandez, Youth Outreach Worker from the YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program and Sandy Clarke, Problem Gambling Counselor from New Directions for Drug, Alcohol & Gambling Problems.

This evening will educate parents and youth service providers on the possible risks associated with internet use as well as help them to develop ways to ensure their children’s safety. There will be access to a computer lab where parents can check out the popular sites. This event is free of charge and refreshments will be provided. Space is limited.
