Greetings all: This will probably be my last update from Haiti as tomorrow is our last clinic day. We leave here Saturday at noon and arrive back in Toronto Sunday afternoon. Today we had a very busy day and some difficult situations to handle. Two people were sent to the hospital in critical condition after we were able to stabilize them and get them there by taxi. The other very sad sitiuation was of a mother of a three-month old baby. Since the earth quake, she had been acting very strange and, as the story evolved, we learned a very interesting thing. In this culture, if a mother is deemed to have any sign of mental illness, they do not breast feed. As a result, they were getting along with formula and the baby actually looked not to bad. The other part of the story however, is one of voodoo(ism) and so much fear. They are going to be followed up by appropriate folk. Today and yesterday I also saw more injuries from the quake - none acute at this stage but people still have pain from their injuries and the minimal initial care they got at the time. We are signing off to a new team coming in this coming week. Again thank you for your prayerful support. Shalom Isla
