A new exhibit, "Gone to the Beach; Vacationing in Kincardine and Area," will be on display this summer at the Walker House in Kincardine. Made possible through a grant from the Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation's Local Initiatives Program, the exhibit will feature the history, stories, photographs and memorabilia of summer vacations in the area. As research for this exhibit progresses, organizers are putting out a call to residents in the community for more photographs, especially older ones, of summer experiences at the beach. “We are looking for pictures of families and friends engaged in summer recreation at the beach,” says Rick Clarke, administrator of the Paddy Walker Heritage Centre. We plan to incorporate these old photographs with the personal stories we are also collecting.” Clarke is willing to meet with anyone who has old photographs. He will scan the photos and immediately return the originals to the owner. Individuals who would like to participate in this project should call the Walker House at 519-396-1850 and leave their contact information. The exhibit will open in late May for the summer season. |
